WITHOUT and ABOUT

There's a phrase, "out and about," which is what I had planned to do today: go out and about, do a little shopping for a grandbaby due in a couple of months, check out some winter sales and generally enjoy being out. Even though there is a wind chill advisory, the sun is inviting.  But it is not to be for me to be out and about, for we are without water.  The extreme cold snaps have caused many frozen pipes around our Central Upper Peninsula area.

Ever wonder if you'd use an Emergency Kit?  At least I had some bottled water for morning medication, coffee and tea, and to wash up.  We have been able to get water from family across town.  But this has been a great example to us to be far more prepared.  If the whole town would have been affected by the weather or other emergency, we would have needed more than a few 10-gallon containers to get us through the day.

Instead of being out and about, I have been working on my UFO's (unfinished objects) and really gotten into sewing again.  I'd be willing to bet that I'll never have time to dream up something new without any UFO's left!

And as always, when a little pick-me-up is needed, a cup of tea will do the trick.  On my perpetual calendar by Emilie Barnes, "If Teacups Could Talk," there is a recipe for Hot Spiced Cranberry Tea, and a quote, "Time has a way of defining true friends."  True friends are what you need (in this case, we are blessed with family in town) when you need to rely on them in times such as this.

So while I take a break from my sewing  projects, and while I'm wishing the water pipes would be unfrozen, thawed before too long, I will be enjoying a nice hot cup of tea, and making a list of more appropriate supplies for our Emergency Kit. That way, the next time we are without, we'll be prepared.  Won't you do the same?
