There are many enjoyable aspects of having a tea party. There's the obvious enjoyment of sharing time with others over a cup of tea.
For me, I love everything about a tea party. I love choosing the invitations, which I sometimes craft myself. Next, the day and date will dictate who will attend. Once the date is set, and invitations made, I relish the time spent reviewing and searching for the perfect menu; and then I choose the name cards, linens, and favor.
One of the things I hope that my guests will experience each time they come to tea at my home is Hospitality. I have learned that I love to serve others and provide an atmosphere of peace and contentment.
For Christmas I received a book called, "Thank you for your Hospitality." Click on this link to find this book. It is written by Welleran Poltarnees, and illustrated by artist Henri Le Sidaner. It is published by Laughing Elephants Books, Seattle.
"The act of bringing a gift when one is a guest is an ancient and noble tradition...........the act of welcoming visitors to one's home...thank you for welcoming me."
Bringing a "hostess gift" had been a new concept to me, though I have certainly been the recipient of many beautiful gifts. Until I read this book, I had no idea that the tradition of hostess gifts was ancient, although I do recall family and close friends wanting to bring some fresh baked goods, or a handmade item when visiting someone else.
This volume is illustrated with depictions of homes and gardens in such a beautiful way.
Thank you, Wendy. Your generosity, and now this book, has taught me more of the traditions of welcoming guests to our home.
